What happens when celebrities they leverage their fame to bring attention to social needs? ONE member Sarah Stone shared on Context and shares below her stories from touring with Half the Sky's events in Toronto. Article posted with permission, originally found here.

When Pulitzer prize winning authors Nick Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn visited Toronto, Canada recently to promote their new Half the Sky Facebook game based on their best selling book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, ONE members were out in full force to show their support.

First stop was a taping of the television show “George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight” where ONE members were in the audience and had a chance to meet and talk to long time ONE supporter and television personality George Stroumboulopoulos before the show. We gave George a white ONE armband which he promptly put on and wore throughout the interview with Nick and Sheryl! See video clip here.

Next, we headed to the Toronto Public Library where Nick and Sheryl were the inaugural speakers at the Bluma Lecture Series.  They both gave impassioned talks about the trials that women and girls face globally but were sure to mention the positive advances that are being made throughout the world on behalf of women and girls everywhere. They spoke about their book, the Half the Sky movement more generally, and mentioned ways that people can get involved. Their talk was extremely inspirational and deserved the standing ovation they received at the end. ONE members had a chance to speak to Nick and Sheryl where we expressed our support and admiration for their work. They also expressed their appreciation for our dedication and the support that ONE has given to the Half the Sky movement and game.

Half the Sky Facebook game raises funds and awareness to help empower women and girls worldwide. For more information about how to get involved with the Half the Sky movement and to play the new Half the Sky Facebook game, go here!
